Assamese Cinema Shines As 'Rador Pakhi' Charms Moscow with Special Jury Mention

The Assamese feature film Rador Pakhi (Morning Sunshine), directed by acclaimed filmmaker Dr. Bobby Sarma Baruah, has been awarded the prestigious Jury Special Mention – Super Mama Award at the International Film Festival Made by Women in Moscow. The film was officially selected in the Competition Section of the international festival, held in the Russian capital recently. This prestigious accolade adds another chapter of global acclaim to the film’s decorated journey across national and international festival circuits.

Rador Pakhi gracefully translates the lived realities of writer Sarmistha Pritam onto the silver screen. The film chronicles the life of Jyoti, an aspiring writer from Assam whose world is upended by a childhood diagnosis of spinal muscular atrophy. Rather than a story of despair, her quiet defiance, pursuit of independence, and literary ambition weave a beautifully inspiring emotional tapestry.

Long before capturing hearts in Moscow, Rador Pakhi had established a strong presence on the festival circuit. Its journey began with a selection at the NFDC Film Bazaar Co-Production Market and led to a high-profile premiere within the Indian Panorama section of the 55th International Film Festival of India in Goa in 2024.

The film’s celebrated journey across the subcontinent featured selections in the Asian Spectrum at Mumbai's 21st Third Eye Asian Film Festival, the 23rd Pune International Film Festival, and the Indian Competition at the 16th Bengaluru International Film Festival in 2025.

Building on its momentum, the film earned official selections at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, the 20th International Film Festival of Thrissur, and the Mosaic International Film Festival in Canada. Its international footprint continued to blossom in 2026, earning prestigious selection and recognition at the recent International Film Festival Made by Women in Moscow.
