New Assamese Film Prem XL All Set to Release on October 2

Aiming to bring a fresh perspective to the Assamese film industry, a new feature film is ready for release after wrapping up production. Written and directed by Tony Deori Basumatary and produced by Prerona Borah Bordoloi under the banner of D MOJO Art in association with Heavy Budget, Prem XL is an entertainment-heavy romantic comedy slated to hit theatres this coming October 2nd. Director Basumatary describes Prem XL as a complete family entertainer centred around college students, packed with love, humour, friendship, and emotion. “While it features plenty of romance and humour, it also highlights the importance of friendship,” he says. “Additionally, the storyline explores the relationship between the younger generation and their parents, along with their career struggles.”
The core narrative of the film revolves around a carefree young man who returns home after failing to complete his studies. Under the strict supervision of his family, his life takes an unexpected turn when he falls in love with a young woman staying at a girls’ PG owned by his parents. Film enthusiasts will have to watch the film to fully experience how this romance unfolds and where his journey leads.
The director shared that the film’s conception began roughly a year and a half ago, with principal photography taking place in November.
Elaborating on the project’s background, actor and co-director Bonny Deori remarked, “Producing a film through our YouTube channel has been a long-cherished aspiration. Although we are already connected with the Assamese film fraternity, creating a project specifically for our channel was a distinct dream we held since around 2019. While various constraints delayed our progress back then, seeing this vision finally come to life is deeply fulfilling.”
The film stars Sanjib Kalita and Anisha Hazarika in the leading roles, supported by an ensemble of both seasoned and emerging actors, including Mridupawan Parashar, Nandini Handique, Jaanu Boruah, Sudarson Nath, Tanmay Das Bora, Minu Rabha, Sarmistha Chakravorty, Nayan Jyoti Dutta and Laishram Queen Devi.
Notably, Jonny Deori and Bonny Deori served as the assistant directors of the film. The film features cinematography by Bhaskar J Tamuli, musical score by Pritom and Anubhav, and sound design by Chintu Nick and Ranjan Patnaik, with makeup by Rita Bharali, and art and costume design by Nikumoni Sarmah and Aiecheng Rajkonwar.
The film’s soundtrack features vocals by several popular artistes, including Angaraag Papon Mahanta, Hansika Pareek, Shankuraj Konwar, Deeplina Deka, Rajiv Sundaresan, Lokkhyyo, Shreya Phukan, Mizzu Mirzanoor, Bonny Deori, and Mridupawan Parashar. The video for the film’s title track, Mone Mone, soulfully rendered by Papon with lyrics by Swaraj Priyo, has already been released on social networking sites, garnering immense appreciation from cinephiles. The movie was filmed across various locations, including Guwahati, Udalguri, Delhi, and Meghalaya.
