Sulakhyana Baruah Makes Her Bollywood Debut in Amit Rai’s Ohh My Dog

Acclaimed Assamese actor and National Award-winning producer Sulakhyana Baruah is making her highly anticipated Bollywood debut in filmmaker Amit Rai’s new Hindi feature film, Ohh My Dog. The emotional family drama, which explores the profound bond between a child and a stray dog, is slated for a nationwide theatrical release on August 7. Directed by Amit Rai, whose previous blockbuster OMG 2 won widespread critical praise — the film boasts a stellar ensemble cast. Baruah shares the screen with prominent industry stalwarts, including Pankaj Tripathi, Pawan Malhotra, Geeta Aggrawal Sharma, Rajesh Kumar, and Maahi Rai. The movie promises to deliver a touching exploration of compassion, friendship, and the healing connection between humans and animals.

For Baruah, this Bollywood entry represents a major milestone in a career defined by artistic integrity. A graduate in Mass Media from Mumbai’s St. Xavier’s College and an alumna of the prestigious FAMU film school in Prague, she first stepped into acting with the film Adomya. She has since built a compelling filmography, earning acclaim in celebrated projects like Maj Rati Keteki (which won the National Award for Best Assamese Feature Film), Anunaad (National Award for Best Film on Social Issues), and Rador Pakhi. As a producer, she has championed regional cinema and indigenous preservation, earning National Awards for her productions Mishing and Sikaisil.

Reflecting on her transition into mainstream Hindi cinema, Baruah shared: “Making my Bollywood debut with Ohh My Dog couldn’t have been more special. She has represented the nation at major global events like the Cannes Film Festival, served on International Film Festival of India (IFFI) preview committees, and contributed as a film festival jury member.
