Murchana Music Education Centre’s Annual Cultural Programme-2023 held
Prantik Deka, a distinguished film critic of considerable repute, pens his thoughts on the annual cultural Programme meticulously orchestrated by the esteemed Murchana Music Education Centre.
It was indeed an evening to cherish for a packed audience of music lovers, parents and guardians, who were held spellbound by a stimulating cultural show at the Dr. Banikanta Kakati Auditorium of Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, Guwahati on 16 July, 2023. Like the previous years, the students of the Murchana Music Education Centre captivated audiences with their vocal and instrumental music performances of Assamese, Hindi and western music.
Since the year 2000, Murchana Music Education Centre has been providing a dedicated training course to a number of learners of all age groups in both online and offline modes, offering lessons in guitar, piano, keyboard, violin, vocal music, tabla, etc.
Affiliated to Musicea Arts and Culture Council, the music institute caters to the widest range of courses in Indian and western music taught by its dedicated teacher and principal Hiranya Kalita and his better-half Barnali Kalita. The music couple is devoted to cultivating students with a integrated approach to music which promotes competency and interest, and also strives to provide practical experience to students with regular opportunities to perform on the stage.
On the occasion, the state's noted philanthropist Debojit Borkakati along with Hiranya Kalita lighted the traditional lamp and paid floral tributes to the portraits of renowned artists Sudakshina Sharma and Rishiraj Sharma.
It was an evening that showcased a number of budding artistes weaving magic with their skilful interpretations of various songs on guitar, keyboard, piano and violin in addition to vocal music. The cultural programme began with a chorus, sung by the students together with some parents, decorated with lyrics, tunes and music by Hiranya Kalita, the institute principal. It was followed by Ananyashree Baruah's Sattriya dance, Ayan Kalita's piano rendition of 'My heart will go on', Rahul Sen's vocal rendition of Aapurba Bezbaruah's popular song 'Kopou Pahi Ture Khupat', Chonee Kalita playing 'See you again' on piano, Jarnav and Mayank Chakrabarty's piano rendition of 'Kaagaz ke do pankh leke', Nikunj Bawri performing 'Gori Tera Gaon Bada Pyara' on guitar, Dheemanta Kumar Baruah performing Dr Bhupen Hazarika's classic 'Manuhe Manuhar Babe' on guitar, Aymen Asman Ali rendering 'Chhuu kar, mere man ko', Devanuj Gogoi playing the immensely popular 'Porichoy Bihin Jajabar Nogori' on piano, which kept the audience spellbound. It's the kind of popular music that surrounds the students daily on their own instrument!
After that, the duo of Sumanshree Das and Pragyashree Nath performed 'Yeh Sham Mastani' on violin, followed by a number of violin players performing the song 'Ek pyar ka nagma hai' collectively. It was then followed by the students of vocal music, including Ayan Kalita, Jisha Agarwala, Lokaksh Borkakoty, Tejanshi Jayantom, Navya Bawri, Dheemanta Kumar Baruah, among others, performing songs like 'Kune Aji Abeli', 'Yashomati Maiya Se Bole Nandlala', 'Believer', etc. The audience were then enthralled by a group of 15 keyboard trainees performing the popular Hindi song 'Mera Dil Ye Pukare Aaja' as well as a guitar playing group with as many as 25 members performing Bishnu Prasad Rabha's evergreen song 'Roi Roi Keteki'.
For achieving the best result in the 2022 Keyboard exam, Jasleen Kaur was felicitated by Murchana Music Education Centre with a cheque of Rs 11,111, a shawl, a certificate and a phulam gamocha, and was also presented with the music scholarship for the current year. Certificates and mementos were also distributed among the students, who have done well in various subjects of music in 2022.
The various other students who contributed with their vocal and instrumental performances are Divyanshu Baruah, Shems Hazarika, Trailoikya Choudhury, Kritartha Kanta Baruah, Dhanistha Devi, Aryan Raj Kakati, Lavya Agarwala, Laksheta Rijal, Harshvardhan Boro, Aranyak Spondon Sarma, Parikshit Boro, Mrinav Chaliha, Prithika Priyadarshini Kashyap, Bidisha Das, Ayan Jyoti Das, Kunal Saha, Dr Ranjana Goswami, Suryansh Pratim Das, Slikh Saha, Pompi Jayantom, Jyotismita Gautam and Alisha Gogoi, among others.
Finally, the annual cultural event 2023 concluded successfully with the song 'Om Jai Jagdish Hare', performed on keyboard and guitar by the students of the music institute.
The evening's programme was beautifully anchored by Gitashree Bhagawati and Mridula Sarmah.
